As we are writing this, we are blown away by just how much has happened since we published our last update in November. The last 3 months have been incredibly eventful, and we are only now able to stop, reflect on what has been happening and share some of it with you.
So you may find yourself asking – ‘Why were November and December so busy for the Theunissens?’
We shared previously that, due to financial reasons, David has been working part time in the events and production industry for the last 2 years. November and December are famously the busiest months of the year for events: corporate year ends, weddings, camps, music shows and festivals, and the list goes on. Add to this the roles that he holds with OM and the church – there has been a lot going on.
Micaela has continued her role with OM in the personnel department, and has helped in some of David’s projects as well.
The biggest highlight of every December is, of course, Border Summercamp. David has been on the committee since 2014 (apart from the 2 years he lived in Pretoria) and Micaela joined the committee in 2020. We love being able to facilitate a space for teenagers to worship together, and it’s always a great experience to work with other youth leaders and pastors from around East London to do this. We had eight teenagers from our church join us for camp this year, and it was great to see them grow in their relationship with God and learn more throughout out Camp. We look forward to what God is going to continue doing in their lives this year.
This time around, David took on the challenge of running the production portfolio solo, but you can read more about that in the Instagram post David made about camp (see below).
This year (2025) we are hoping for more opportunities to use these skills in ministry environments, glorifying God with our practical skills.
We’ve already been blessed with opportunities in this regard on the professional front, as last week we had the opportunity to be a part of the launch of a local Christian Women’s Leadership network as part of the GLN.
David was responsible for implementing sound, lighting and visual solutions, while Micaela assisted with presentation design.
In the midst of all this busyness, finding time to rest over the Christmas period was difficult, especially for David. We are currently back at work, catching up after the OM offices were closed.
We appreciate your continued prayers, and would appreciate prayers for the following:
- Rest for David as we begin the new year
- The youth ministry at Amalinda Baptist church – that more teenagers would come to know Christ and walk closely with Him
- New financial partners to alleviate some of the pressure felt by rising costs of living
- Guidance as we look at various options for the future
