I’m sure I speak for many of us when I say that this year is absolutely flying by. We blinked and somehow we’re already in July! A lot has been happening, and we’re excited to share some updates and future plans with you.
David continues to work part time in the events industry outside of his role with OM to raise additional funds to support us both. This additional income is much needed, but the nature of the work means that he often has to balance his OM workload with events during the week. On top of this, many of his weekends are fully booked with late nights on Saturdays and early mornings serving in church on Sundays.
Micaela has taken on a lot this year. On top of her role with Personnel for OMZA, she has also taken on a few additional responsibilities locally. She is involved with a local WLN (Women Leadership Network) initiative, helping to plan events. She has also had the opportunity to attend a training workshop with an OM partner ministry.

Some important highlights
In March, Micaela attended an Anti-Human Trafficking work shop with Freedom Challenge, a ministry of OM.
Around the same time, we were invited to join Redeemer Christian Church for their missions week. David shared about OM in some of their Sunday services, and we were able to fellowship with the church for a Wednesday evening prayer event.
We were part of organising a youth worship evening as a follow up to Summercamp. Pray with us as we look at organising another one at Amalinda Baptist in August.
Micaela traveled to Pretoria in May. She was able to attend some meetings with various OMers in the area, and attend a retreat hosted by a partner ministry.
Church involvement
On top of everything we’ve mentioned above, we are still actively involved in serving with Amalinda Baptist Church.
We have been blown away this year by God’s faithfulness in the growth of the youth ministry at the church. In the past few months the number of teenagers attending on a Friday night has doubled, with many wanting to serve in church as well. With this growth, we’ve realised that we need help. We’ve spent most of this year answering questions that the teens have asked, looking at scripture for guidance. Please continue to pray for the youth ministry to grow and for the teens to walk closer to the Lord.
We are also involved in various other areas around the church. When we’re available, we both join in on a weekly meeting to help plan upcoming ministry events and services.
Micaela has been helping with some social media content and graphic design, which is a bit of a stress reliever from her usual work with OM. David is normally near the sound equipment at the church. He has just been part of a large overhaul of most of the speakers in the church. Its amazing being to use our practical/professional skills to serve in this way.
On top of all this, we’ve also had the opportunity to share on two Missions Sundays in church this year and we’ve been involved in various visits to the children’s homes that the church partners with.

Some thoughts from David
Something I have been burdened with since I started working in the events industry almost three years ago is the fact that it is a very secular space. At the end of last year, one of my prayers was that God would allow me to use my professional skills in a way that would glorify Him more. This year I’ve had the opportunity to be involved in a number of events where God has been glorified.
This may seem like a small thing, but His faithfulness in answering prayers like this always blows us away. Please continue to pray that more opportunities like this would come our way.
We’re planning a trip to Portugal!
One of the questions we get asked a lot (mostly by Micaela’s family) is when we will be traveling to Portugal again. We have begun planning a trip for the middle of next year (2026), to spend at least 2 months in Portugal. We haven’t been able to visit friends, family and partners since 2021 and we’re looking forward to this opportunity.
This trip normally takes a lot of planning, one of the factors is that David will need to travel to Cape Town to apply for a Visa before we can travel. We have some finances saved up for this trip, but if you would like to contribute towards this, please contact us.
A few other things
We recently realised that Micaela’s Portuguese drivers license is expiring in September. We were able to order a new one online, but now we are working out the logistics of getting it to South Africa without costing a small fortune. Please pray for a reasonable option for us.
Prayer requests
We want to thank those who continually pray for us. These are some of the things that we are praying for at the moment:
- New financial partners
- Micaela’s driver’s license
- More partners in the ministries we are involved in at Amalinda Baptist
- Planning of our trip to Portugal in 2026
Not only are we praying for things, but also join us in giving thanks for the following:
- God’s provision
- The growth of the youth ministry at Amalinda Baptist
- The ability to use our skills to serve practically
If you would like to know more about how you can partner with us, there is more information on the Partner with us page.
